Give 'Em A Bird — and Holiday Meals, Too!

We have got some big bird energy this Thanksgiving. In an effort to bring

more food to our food pantry partners and Mississippi tables this holiday

season, we are asking you to Give 'Em a Bird — and holiday meals, too!

No need to clutch your pearls — ha, made you laugh. Memorable slogan, right?

But we mean exactly what we say: this Thanksgiving, we are giving birds

— chickens, to be exact — to our food pantry partners across Mississippi.

​

A gift of $15 = 3 Whole Chickens

Starting November 1, we are raising funds to put 9,000+ whole chickens

on Mississippi tables this holiday season — feeding our neighbors, Mississippi

men, women, and children, through Thanksgiving and into December.

Every $15 you give covers the cost of three whole, Mississippi-grown

chickens for a family in need.

Why Chickens?

Good question.

• More birds per dollar — Extra Table can buy 3 whole chickens for the cost of 1 turkey.

• Easier to cook — Mississippi families have more experience cooking chicken than turkey, and most don't have grandmother's giant roasting pan or the rest of the turkey-day gear.

• Easier to store — their smaller size lets food pantries store more chickens safely at the right temperature.

• More meat, less bone — chicken has more meat per pound; turkey bones are denser.

• Deliciously versatile — chicken can be cooked a hundred ways, and it's always juicy.

• Good for Mississippi — we buy our birds from a Mississippi company, so every donation supports our state's economy too.

The Henny 9000 Road Trip

On November 11–12, the Extra Table FEEDS team hits the road for the Henny 9000 — a two-day run, Indy 500 pace, hauling chickens from Gulfport to Hattiesburg to Jackson to Greenville to Tupelo. Every food pantry partner along the route receives 150+ whole chickens to share with families in need.

Gather your friends and help us reach 9,000 chickens faster. Pick a date, time, and place; invite friends over; and spend 10 minutes or 2 hours texting your networks — friends, family, coworkers — asking them to donate $15 to the Give 'Em a Bird campaign. It's an easy, fun way to make a big impact together.
