On Tuesday evening, December 11th at 7:00 p.m. Extra Table is hosting a wonderful evening of Christmas music at the Saenger Theatre in Historic Downtown Hattiesburg. The concert will feature a full orchestra conducted by Jay Dean, several area school choirs, a collection of local professional singers, and the New Testament Christmas story as narrated by Deanna Favre. I believe it will be one of the most meaningful and enjoyable 55 minutes you will spend this holiday season. And best of all, 100% of the proceeds go to Extra Table.
Many are skeptical that there is a hunger problem in our area. Unfortunately it’s real and it’s serious. One out of every six children in the Pine Belt goes to bed hungry every night. Too many children are eating a school breakfast, a school lunch, and not eating again until the next day. Over 27,000 men, women, and children suffer from malnutrition in Lamar and Forrest County, and the largest segment of the group are over 65 years of age.
Extra Table is a 501(c)3 non-profit that helps supply soup kitchens and mission pantries throughout the region with healthy, much-needed food. In the month of November alone, we purchased and delivered over seven tons of healthy food to mission pantries in this area.
Whenever anyone purchases a food bundle from Extra Table, 100% of that donation goes to purchase food. For us to be able to do that, we have to host a couple of events each year to fund our minimal administrative costs. The most important of those events is the Extra Table Christmas Concert.
Please join us at the concert and help us sell out the Saenger. Bring your entire family and bring your friends. The tickets are only $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for children under 12 years of age. I promise it will be one of the more memorable evenings you will spend this holiday season, and most importantly, by attending, you will make it possible for a large portion of that 27,000 in our area to keep receiving the healthful and nutritious foods they need to live a healthy life.
