Extra Table sprinted into the new year with a special donation for one of their annual events. Willmut Gas and parent company Sempra Energy Foundation presented a check in the amount of $2,500 to Extra Table as a contribution to the Hattiesburg Hunger Run, an annual 5K in Downtown Hattiesburg that raises money for the non-profit organization.

The gift was part of Sempra Energy Foundation’s 2014 ‘Season of Giving’ program, in which affiliated company employees volunteer with a non-profit organization and in turn become eligible to nominate that organization for a grant from the Foundation. Freddie Triplett, Marketing Manager for Willmut Gas, applied for a grant to be given to Extra Table and received notification late last year that his request had been approved.

The $2,500 grant will contribute to the overall profit from the 2014 Hunger Run, 100% of which will be used throughout this year to purchase new, healthy food in bulk for local soup kitchens Christians Services and Edwards Street food pantry.

“Willmut gas has generously exhibited their commitment to their community, and to making sure that everyone in Hattiesburg has access to the healthy food the need and deserve. It’s an honor to have their support and partnership in this effort to end hunger in our community,” said Extra Table Executive Director Michael Dixon.

The 3rd annual Hattiesburg Hunger Run will take place in the Fall of this year and is sponsored by The Thirsty Hippo and Southern Prohibition Brewery.
