Mississippi music legend and 8-time CMA Musician of the Year, singer/songwriter Mac McAnally is bringing a special benefit concert to Tupelo, MS this fall. On November 10, McAnally will take the stage with members of the Coral Reefer Band and the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra to play a concert to benefit local non-profit organization Extra Table.
Started in Hattiesburg, MS by Chef and Restaurateur Robert St. John, Extra Table is a non-profit organization that has designed a revolutionary system to get new, healthy, shelf-stable food to soup kitchens and food pantries on a monthly basis. Through a unique partnership with Sysco Food Distributors, Extra Table is now delivering food statewide to over 20 counties and feeding agencies. Proceeds from the November 10 concert will be used to send food to Tupelo and surrounding area food pantries and soup kitchens.
I was so grateful that Mac believed in the mission of Extra Table from the start and has been a big part of what we do to keep the shelves of Mississippi’s food pantries filled with heathy food,” said Extra Table Founder Robert St. John. “I am a huge music fan and I had seen Mac perform over a dozen times throughout the years. But hearing his songs with the accompaniment of a full orchestra was unlike anything I had ever heard before. His fans in the Tupelo area are in for a treat. It’s going to be a very special homecoming.”
The November 10 concert will be the 4th concert of it’s kind, and the first in the northern part of the state. McAnally has partnered with Extra Table to host events in Hattiesburg, Biloxi and Jackson in an effort to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in Mississippi, and to help others become more aware of the work that Extra Table is doing across the entire state to get much needed food to the hungry.
“Coming home is always good. Playing music is always good. Helping people is always good. On November 10th, thanks to the folks at Extra Table, I’m getting to do all three things at once,” said Mac McAnally. “I’ve been very fortunate in my life but I’m also very familiar with the taste of government cheese. Extra Table is a fine example of Mississippi folks helping their neighbors most in need. I’m thrilled to get to play my music with an orchestra in my old stomping grounds, but even more so to be associated with the people and the work of Extra Table. Please come out and help us make some difference (and some joyful noise) “ McAnally added.
Mac’s peers have voted him CMA Musician of the Year for an unprecedented eight years in a row. He’s a member of the Nashville Songwriters’ Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame and Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer band. Mac has been releasing albums since he was 20 years old – AKA Nobody being his 13th so far. He’s also written several No. 1 hits, beginning with Alabama’s “Old Flame.” Mac McAnally is undoubtedly music royalty.
