HATTIESBURG, MS: An official celebration highlighting the career and accomplishments of the Honorable Phil Bryant, the 64th Governor of Mississippi will be held Tuesday, August 20. The event will be held at The South Warehouse, located at 627 Silas Brown Street in Jackson. Kicking off with a cocktail hour at 5:30pm, dinner will be served at 6:30pm.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Extra Table Foundation and commemorates the tenth anniversary of the organization. “Governor Bryant has been a close partner in the fight against hunger and obesity in Mississippi for many years now,” says Martha Allen, executive Director of the Extra Table Foundation. “Together, we have made fighting food insecurity a top priority.”
Extra Table is the AMAZING partnership launched by well-known restaurateur Robert St. John, in 2009, making a difference in the lives of Mississippians by fundraising in order to stock food pantries and soup kitchens across the state with wholesome nutritious food. Today, Extra Table ships nutritious, shelf stable food to 39 food pantries and soup kitchens state-wide the last Wednesday of each month.
“It’s a tremendous honor for Deborah and me to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Extra Table,” says Bryant. “This organization does a remarkable job providing food pantries and soup kitchens with the new and healthy food they need to feed the hungry in their community. Government cannot solve all our problems. The work of Robert St. John and the staff at Extra Table give hope to many individuals throughout our State. Mississippi needs more organizations like Extra Table.”
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by concert pianist Bruce Levingston, a native of the Mississippi Delta who now resides in New York. Levingston has performed in the world’s most prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden. Many of today’s most important composers have written works especially for him, and his world premiere performances have been widely acclaimed.
