The latest buzz around the office does not have to do with pumpkins or the weather. While we love these things, we love our coast partnerships more. Yes, you read that correctly. We are so excited to expand to the lowest part of Mississippi to work with five agencies in the hopes of expanding our fight against hunger. Mississippi continues to be the hungriest state, and we are working everyday to change Mississippi’s statistics.

We are ecstatic to announce our new partnership with Feed My Sheep in Gulfport, Loaves and Fishes in Biloxi, Our Daily Bread in Pascagoula, St. Gerard Community Outreach in Bay St. Louis, and The Lord is My Help in Ocean Springs. On a typical day, Our Daily Bread in Pascagoula will serve 800 lunches in one day alone. Feed My Sheep in Gulfport will serve 16,700 healthy meals in one month. Together with Loaves and Fishes in Biloxi, St. Gerald Community Outreach in Bay St. Louis, The Lord is my Help in Ocean Springs, all of our coast partnerships will serve thousands of meals a month. This is huge and we could not be more honored to stand alongside them. We have even been able to form an Extra Table community board of coast residents. These are people who are standing up and saying no- a group of committed people that are determined to help their hungry neighbors in their own community.

Next time you are taking the scenic route down the beach, stop and look around. What do you see? Often times you see an elementary class field trip identifying seashells. The teacher is passing out box lunches and one little boy is particularly relived to have a meal. Maybe it’s an elderly woman who is just hoping she can make it to the grocery store this month. Whoever it may be, we are thrilled to be working with our friends on the gulf coast to serve more of Mississippi.
