Mississippi Power, Extra Table ‘power together’ to fight hunger

Community Connection, Mississippi Power’s employee based volunteer organization, is working in conjunction with local non-profit agency Extra Table to continue addressing the issue of hunger in the community and throughout the state. On April 24, 2015, Extra Table and Mississippi Power will host the first “Power to Fight Hunger” Charity Golf Tournament at Timberton Golf Club to raise money that will be used to purchase new, healthy food for soup kitchens and food pantries in the area.

“We’ve gotten the opportunity to do a lot of different events in partnership with local groups and businesses, but this is the first time we’re working together on a golf tournament,” said Michael Dixon, Executive Director with Extra Table. “But what better partners to have on this event than Mississippi Power and Timberton. We couldn’t be happier”.

The 4-Person Scramble tournament will feature sponsors and players from across the Pine Belt. Players will also be able to participate in Longest Drive, Longest Putt and Hole-In-One contests along the course. Local restaurants including Glory Bound Gyro Company and Vicki’s on Walnut in Downtown Hattiesburg will be providing food and refreshments along different stops on the course. Food from Crescent City Grill and Tabella will also be featured, both restaurants owned by Chef and Extra Table Founder Robert St. John. “Mississippi Power has been a strong supporter of our business for 28 years. They’ve always gone above and beyond the call of duty anytime we’ve reached out for assistance,” said. St. John. “We all appreciate everything that they do for the community and look forward to Crescent City Grill and Tabella serving food at the tournament,”.

Mississippi Power and Community Connection are equally excited about the event, which will be raising money for an important cause. “Partnering with organizations like Extra Table helps maximize our resources, reach more people and build deeper relationships in the communities we serve. Mississippi Power’s Pine Belt Division employees are excited to partner with Robert and truly make a difference with this Community Connection fundraiser,” Michael Harvey, Mississippi Power Pine Belt Division Manager.

Registration and sponsorship opportunities are now available for interested individuals or businesses. For more information on the tournament email inquiries to info@extratable.org or REGISTER using the link below:
